How to Manage and Use Folders

Unlock the power of collaborative project management in Vev by understanding and using folders efficiently.

Written by Diego Muralles

If you're looking to organize your projects and make sharing and collaboration easier, folders are the key. Folders live inside teams, so every team member who has access to a team automatically gets access to the folders and projects inside it. For a wider view of how teams, folders, and projects fit together, see Account Settings and Structure.

In the left sidebar, folders sit nested under their parent team — they're listed beneath the team name, with their projects beneath them in turn.

Creating a New Folder

There are two ways to create a folder. Both place the folder inside the team you're currently in, so make sure you've selected the right team first.

From the sidebar:

  1. Hover over the team where the new folder should live.

  2. Click the overflow menu that appears next to the team name.

  3. Select New folder.

  4. Give the folder a meaningful name, like a client name or a project name.

  5. Confirm to create it.

From the team page:

  1. Select the team by clicking its name in the sidebar.

  2. On the top-right of the page, click New folder.

  3. Give the folder a meaningful name.

  4. Confirm to create it.

Either way, your new folder will appear under the team in both the sidebar and the team landing page.

Nesting Folders

Nesting folders — folders inside folders — are useful for a more detailed organizational structure, for example, splitting a client folder into "Campaigns", "Always-on", and "Archive". Vev currently supports one level of nesting.

Nested folders are available on the Enterprise, Growth, and Scale planes.

How to create a nested folder:

  1. Hover the folder where the nested folder should live.

  2. Click the overflow menu that appears next to the folder name.

  3. Select Add subfolder.

  4. Give the folder a meaningful name.

  5. Confirm to create it.

You can also drag an existing folder onto another folder in the sidebar to nest it. Nested folders appear indented under their parent.

Editing Folders

There are two ways to open the folder editing drawer — pick whichever fits where you already are.

From the sidebar:

  1. Hover over the folder you want to edit.

  2. Click the overflow menu that appears next to the folder name.

  3. Select Edit folder.

From the folder page

  1. Open the folder by clicking its name in the sidebar.

  2. Click the cogwheel icon in the top-right corner of the folder page.

Both paths open the same settings drawer. The drawer is organized into a few tabs:

Settings

  • Folder name and icon: Rename the folder and choose an icon — pick an emoji, a symbol, or upload a custom image.

  • Team: View the team this folder belongs to, and move the folder to a different team if you have access to one. Moving a folder takes everything inside it — sub-folders, projects, and folder-level settings — along with it.

  • Folder palette: Define a default color palette inherited by every project created inside this folder.

  • Fonts: Define default fonts accessible across every project inside the folder.

  • Hosting overrides: Override the team-level hosting settings for projects in this folder.

  • Delete folder: Permanently remove the folder and everything inside it. This action cannot be undone.

Members

Folder-level invitations let you give someone access to a single folder without granting them access to the whole team. There are two types:

  • Internal: Invite a teammate from your account into a specific folder without giving them access to the rest of the team.

  • External: Invite a guest from another Vev account to collaborate across accounts on a single folder.

Invite members to a folder:

  1. Open the folder settings and select the Members tab.

  2. Enter the email address of the person you want to invite.

  3. Click Invite.

  4. The invitee receives an email and an in-app notification. The folder will appear under Shared with me in their sidebar.

For a complete breakdown of how team-, folder-, and project-level invitations differ, see Sharing and Collaborating.

Inviting to folder level is exclusively available to accounts on the Organization plan.

Integrations

You can manage integrations at the folder level so that every project inside the folder inherits the same setup.

  1. Open the folder settings and select the Integrations tab.

  2. Find the integration you want to manage.

    1. If it's already configured at the hosting level, you can override the settings here.

    2. If it isn't, click Install to folder to add it. Then configure the settings and save.

Integrations applied at the folder level apply to every project inside that folder by default. For more details, see Managing Integrations at the Folder Level.
