With authentication for published pages, you can restrict access to your published projects by requiring Single Sign-On (SSO) via SAML. This ensures that only users with access to your SAML application can view your published pages.
What You Need to Know
When enabled, authentication applies SSO (SAML) login to all published pages under a specific hosting. But keep in mind—there’s no built-in user management. Anyone with access to your SAML provider can view your pages, so you’ll handle access on your end.
By default, authentication applies to all published projects under that hosting, but if you need to, you can disable it for specific projects. Also, this only works on standard Vev hosting and the staging domain, so you won’t be able to use it with custom setups.
How to Enable Authentication on Published Pages
Go to Hosting Settings
Open Account Settings then press the Hosting tab in the left panel.
Find the hosting where you want to enable authentication and click on it, this should open the settings page
Configure Authentication
Scroll down to the section called Authentication on Published Pages.
If you haven’t set up SAML yet, you’ll see an option to Configure SAML Provider.
Clicking this button will take you to Account Security, where you can set up your SAML provider for published pages.
Head back to hosting settings when done
Once SAML is configured, select the SAML provider you want to use for this hosting.
As soon as you enable it, authentication will immediately apply to all published pages under this hosting.
Note: If you disable authentication, it might take some time for the SSO login to disappear due to caching.
How to Disable Authentication for a Single Project
If you need to make an exception for a specific project, here’s what to do:
1. Open the Project
• Go to the project where you want to disable authentication.
2. Disable Authentication in the Publish Dialog
• In the Publish dialog, you’ll see an authentication icon next to the publish items where SSO is enabled.
• Click this icon to disable SSO for that page.
3. Republish the Project
• Changes will only take effect after you republish the project.
A Few Extra Notes
This feature is only available for organizations, so want to hear, more book a demo here. Authentication only works on standard Vev hosting and the staging domain. And if you turn it off, just know that the login screen might stick around for a little while due to caching—but it’ll go away soon.
That’s it! Now you can lock down your published pages and make sure only the right people have access. 🚀
