Styles is a feature that enables you to save and reuse styling settings. It´s an important feature to use to ensure efficiency, especially when adapting a site from desktop to tablet and mobile.
When designing websites that contain a lot of text boxes, many of those boxes will contain the same text properties. In Vev, you can define a Text Style to apply to these text-boxes, so you can update their style with ease. The Text Style can also have different properties across different devices, enabling you to adapt the site to tablet and mobile with only making changes once.
Keep in mind!
To utilize this feature in the best way, it is important not to use too many text boxes with only one single text formatting within the box. Add as few text boxes as you can to your site, with several text styles withing the box (H1, H2, Paragraph etc.). This makes it easier to use styles efficiently, and adapting to tablet and mobile becomes a lot easier as you won't have to resize a ton of text boxes. Read more about how to use the Text Widget here.
Text Styles exist on a per-project basis, but you can copy a text box with a style over to a new project, and the style will follow along.
Creating a Text Style
To create a Text Style, Select a text-box, and select "+" on the style selector. Once selected, you’ll be prompted to give your text style a name before the style is created. You will then see the Inspector updates to show you the new Text Style created.
Apply Style to an existing text box
To apply an existing Text Style to a text box, select it and click the “No Shared Style” label in the right side editors to reveal a drop-down menu showing you the available Text Styles from your project. Choose the style you want to attach to your text box.
Updating a Text Style
When a text style is created, you can update the style if you make changes later. When you make changes, a blue arrow will appear on the Style selector on the right panel editors; click this to update the style. When you update the style it will affect all text boxes with the given style.
Using Text Styles to adapt to tablet and mobile
If you have used text styles, and only a few text boxes, adapting text to tablet and mobile is quick and easy.
The text style can have different properties across different devices.
Move to the device you want to adjust the content to, style the text as you like and update the style. Text boxes with the same style will then also be updated automatically.
